There is a Devil Food in Surabaya which Has a Very Delicious Taste; Rawon Setan

Have you ever eaten Rawon? If you come from the Island of Java, you must already know with this food because it is in almost all areas in the island of Java. For meat soup lovers, they will surely love it. Its delicious taste and the smell of Indonesian spices will always make you tempted to eat it. For those of you who do not know what is actually Rawon?

Rawon is one of the unique and black meat soups. The black color comes from a typical spice called Kluwak. The meat used is diced beef. This cuisine comes from East Java, especially Surabaya but also known in the area of Surakarta, Central Java.

Soup seasoning is very typical of Indonesia, which is a mixture of onion, garlic, galangal (laos), coriander, lemongrass, turmeric, chili, kluwek, salt, and vegetable oil. All these ingredients are smoothed, and then pan-fried until fragrant. This spice mixture is then put in a meat stew broth along with the meat. Abroad, Rawon is referred to as black soup. Rawon served with rice, equipped with small bean sprouts, spring onions, prawn crackers, fried beef (empal) and spicy sauce.

If you visit surabaya, you can taste the most delicious Rawon there. Its name is “Rawon  Setan”. Its name is very legendary, even in other areas including Jakarta also many traders who sell Rawon with the name Rawon Setan. But Rawon Setan was first established by one of the traders in Surabaya. Rawon Setan is very famous and became the first culinary place in Surabaya. The origin of the word "Setan" itself because the first Rawon stall is new open the night at 22:00 until early morning. Operating hours are considered to be the same as the demons that appear at night. But now Rawon Setan has started open since morning from 07.30 - 22.00 WIB for Sunday to Tuesday, and 07.30 - 03.30 for Wednesday to Saturday.
